The Raiders jersey design includes artwork associated with the Reconciliation Public holiday in the region. It took place Monday, 1 June 2020.
The ACT was the first Australian state to create a Reconciliation Day holiday. The ACT Legislative Assembly passed a bill to amend the Holidays Act on Thursday 14 September 2017 with tripartisan support. This public holiday is observed annually to mark the anniversary of the 1967 Australian Referendum. This holiday marks the start of National Reconciliation Week.
On 27 May 1967, the Holt Government called for an Australian referendum. It approved two amendments that would have affected Australia's constitution to include Indigenous Australians. They were supported by 90.77% of votes and carried in all six states. The amendments changed sections 51(xxvi), and 127. This allowed Aboriginal Australians to be included as part of population determinations. The Federal Parliament was also empowered to legislate to this racial group.
These amendments didn't give Aboriginal people voting rights, which were introduced in 1962, or citizenship since many of the federal laws and state laws that discriminated against Aboriginal people had been repealed by 1967.
The Raiders NRL Team will wear this Indigenous Jersey in Round 12 2020 NRL Season
